The HCL-Nagpur connection has been active one way or the other, since quite some time now, most recent being HCL's is plan to set up its first separate training facilities in Nagpur and Manesar.
On July 27 2011, The Hindu Business Line reported that HCL now plans to set up separate training facilities in Nagpur. “Our current training facilities are on a smaller scale and located along with our development centres. We are planning our first separate training facilities now in Nagpur and Manesar”, Mr Anil Chanana, CFO of HCL Technologies, told Business Line. He added that the company has already acquired land and is also planning a development centre with 8,000 seats in Nagpur which will be a three-year project
HCL Technologies has always expressed interest in Nagpur , identifying as a location with high potential. In February 2007 , An economic times news item spread like wild fire which stated that HCL Technologies signed an MOU with MADC to set up a 1000 crore IT campus at Nagpur which would generate 10,000 jobs in 5 years. The IT campus never saw daylight.
In September 2007, HCL launched their first Career Development Center in Nagpur, offering specially designed courses in Infrastructure, Middleware and Networking to create highly skilled IT professionals across the country. Its currently active and located at Bajajnagar, Nagpur.
Looking at this HCL - Nagpur connection, HCL's plans, actions and the time-lines, it will be interesting to see how much of the plans get converted into action, and how soon. The proposed 1000 crore IT campus has never seen daylight. Career development centre did. Will this plan to set up a training facility materialize soon or will just be like the plans of several big companies who have taken up lands at Nagpur years ago and has still not started operations?
